A quick and easy casserole combining tender chicken, ham, and Swiss cheese in a creamy sauce topped with a crispy buttery panko crust. Perfect comfort food for weeknights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups cooked chicken breasts, shredded or diced (rotisserie chicken recommended)
  • 68 slices deli ham, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (Emmi or Jarlsberg preferred)
  • 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken soup as substitute)
  • 1 cup sour cream (can substitute Greek yogurt for lighter version)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (gluten-free panko for gluten-free option)
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a small bowl, mix 1 cup panko breadcrumbs with 3 tablespoons melted butter. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  4. Spread half of the cooked chicken evenly in the baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle half of the chopped ham and shredded Swiss cheese over the chicken.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining chicken, ham, and cheese.
  7. Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the layered ingredients and spread gently with a spatula.
  8. Top with the buttery panko breadcrumb mixture, distributing evenly.
  9. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crispy and the casserole is bubbling at the edges. If browning too quickly, tent with foil and bake longer as needed.
  10. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use shredded leftover chicken to save time. Shred cheese fresh for better melting and texture. If topping browns too fast, tent with foil. Serve immediately to keep breadcrumb topping crispy. Variations include swapping cream soup base, adding veggies, or using gluten-free/keto-friendly toppings.
