Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp (21–25 count), peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1–2 tablespoons hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot or Sriracha)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Vegetable or canola oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prep the shrimp: If frozen, thaw under cold running water for about 5 minutes. Pat very dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up breading station: In a shallow bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. In a second bowl, beat eggs. In a third bowl, add panko.
  3. Coat the shrimp: Dredge each shrimp in flour mixture, shaking off excess. Dip in egg, letting excess drip off. Press into panko until fully coated. Place on a plate or baking sheet.
  4. Heat oil: Pour about 1/2 inch of oil into a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering (350°F/175°C).
  5. Fry shrimp: Working in batches of 4-5, fry shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack.
  6. Make glaze: In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, and butter. Warm over low heat, stirring, until butter melts and mixture is smooth. Stir in red pepper flakes if using. Remove from heat.
  7. Toss and serve: Transfer fried shrimp to a large bowl. Pour glaze over top and toss gently until evenly coated. Serve immediately.

Notes

Pat shrimp very dry for best coating. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Serve immediately for maximum crispiness. Leftovers can be reheated in an air fryer at 375°F for 3-4 minutes.
