These crispy jalapeño popper twists feature a cheesy bacon filling wrapped in flaky puff pastry, delivering a perfect balance of spicy, smoky, and creamy flavors in a quick and easy snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, store-bought)
  • 2 medium fresh jalapeños, deseeded and finely chopped
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 6 bacon strips, cooked until crispy and crumbled
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Cook the bacon until crispy by frying in a skillet over medium heat for about 8 minutes or baking in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes on a wire rack. Once cooled, crumble into small pieces.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar, chopped jalapeños, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to about 12 x 9 inches if needed. Cut into 1-inch wide strips. Keep pastry cold until ready to use.
  5. Spread the filling evenly along one edge of each pastry strip, leaving a small border at the edge.
  6. Fold the pastry strip over the filling lengthwise, gently pressing down to seal. Holding both ends, twist each strip several times to create a spiral shape.
  7. Place each twist on the baking sheet spaced about 1 inch apart. Brush each twist lightly with beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until pastry is puffed and golden brown and cheese filling is bubbly. Check after 12 minutes to avoid burning.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use to prevent sticking. Remove jalapeño seeds to reduce heat or keep some for spicier twists. Crisp bacon well to avoid soggy pastry. Egg wash gives a golden sheen and seals edges. Twists can be frozen before or after baking. Reheat in oven to restore crispness.
