Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter until the crumbs are evenly coated and the mixture resembles wet sand.
  3. Press the crust mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to create a solid base.
  4. Bake the crust for about 8 minutes until set and slightly golden but not browned. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  5. Evenly sprinkle 1 cup shredded coconut over the warm crust, followed by 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, 1 cup butterscotch chips, and 1 cup chopped nuts if using.
  6. Pour the 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the layered toppings, covering all areas but avoiding over-pouring.
  7. Bake the assembled bars for 25 to 30 minutes, or until edges are bubbling and the top is light golden brown. The center should be set but still soft.
  8. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for 1 to 2 hours before cutting.
  9. Cut into squares and serve. For clean cuts, use a sharp knife wiped clean between slices.
