A fresh, authentic guacamole with a perfect balance of creamy and chunky textures, brightened by lime and a hint of jalapeño heat. This easy recipe is a crowd-pleaser perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 cup diced tomato

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half lengthwise, twist to separate, and remove the pits. Scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl. (Time: 5 minutes)
  2. Using a fork or potato masher, gently mash the avocado to a creamy base with some larger chunks left intact for texture.
  3. Finely dice the red onion, jalapeño (remove seeds if less heat desired), and chop the cilantro. Mince the garlic finely. (Time: 5 minutes)
  4. Add the chopped onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and garlic to the mashed avocado. Pour in the fresh lime juice, then sprinkle salt and black pepper. (Time: 2 minutes)
  5. Stir everything together gently to distribute ingredients without mashing further, preserving distinct chunks and fresh bits.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or lime juice if needed.
  7. If using diced tomato, gently fold it in last to keep chunks intact and prevent watery guacamole. (Time: 1 minute)
  8. Serve immediately for best freshness or cover with plastic wrap pressed directly on the surface to avoid browning. Optionally, add a layer of lime juice on top before covering.

Notes

Use ripe but firm avocados for best creamy yet chunky texture. Avoid food processors or blenders to keep texture. Roll limes before juicing to maximize juice. Press plastic wrap directly on guacamole surface to prevent browning. Jalapeño seeds can be removed to reduce heat. Optional tomato adds color and juiciness. Can substitute herbs or peppers to adjust flavor and heat. Store leftovers refrigerated and consume within 1-2 days.
