A quick and easy homemade snack that combines the tangy cream cheese flavor with vibrant freeze-dried strawberries for a refreshing twist on classic puppy chow.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups (180 g) Chex cereal (rice or corn recommended)
  • 1 cup (170 g) white chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons cream cheese powder
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup (15 g) freeze-dried strawberries, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: a few drops of pink food coloring

Instructions

  1. Pour 6 cups (180 g) of Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  2. Place 1 cup (170 g) of white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and creamy—about 1 minute total. Alternatively, melt over a double boiler on low heat.
  3. Stir 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the melted chocolate. If desired, add a few drops of pink food coloring and mix well until evenly colored.
  4. Pour the melted white chocolate over the cereal. Use a spatula to gently fold and stir, making sure every piece of cereal gets coated without crushing them. This should take about 2 minutes.
  5. In a large resealable plastic bag or a second large bowl, combine 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons cream cheese powder, 1/2 cup (15 g) freeze-dried strawberries (crumbled slightly), and a pinch of salt.
  6. Transfer the chocolate-coated cereal into the bag or bowl with the powdered sugar mixture. Seal the bag tightly or start tossing gently if using a bowl. Shake or stir until the cereal pieces are completely coated with the powder mixture—about 2-3 minutes. If using a bag, shake in short bursts to avoid breaking the cereal.
  7. Spread the coated puppy chow on parchment paper or a large baking sheet to cool and set for about 10 minutes.
  8. Once cooled, transfer to an airtight container. Ready to enjoy immediately or keep for up to a week at room temperature.

Notes

If white chocolate thickens before coating, warm gently again for 10-15 seconds. Use silicone spatula or wooden spoon to avoid breaking cereal. Freeze-dried strawberries are best to avoid sogginess. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days. Refrigeration may soften coating. Variations include swapping half white chocolate for milk chocolate, adding nuts, or using dairy-free alternatives for vegan version.
